"Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Routt, 80, who died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the home of her daughter, 3515 avenue M. are pending at Fields funeral home. Mrs. Routt is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lenora Fells and Mrs. Senora Wilder, both of Galveston and Mrs. Opera Henderson of New York City; five grand-children and seven great-grand-children."

Daisy [Newsome] Routt married my great-great-grand Uncle Jefferson Routt on 27 January 1917, and was living with him on a farm he rented as a sharecropper in Chappell Hill, Washington County, Texas. Even though there were no children born of this union, her children from a previous marriage were enumerated under his surname in the 1920 US Federal Census.

1920 US Census for Jeff Routt

I'm not sure when Daisy and uncle Jeff divorced or separated. What I do know is that Daisy and her six children are no longer living with him by the US 1930 census.

1930 US Census for Jeff Routt

The 1930 US Census above reflects that uncle Jeff was living and renting a farm next door to his brother and sister-in-law, uncle John and Isabella [Whitefield] Routt. Uncle Jeff passed away five years later on the 27 April 1935 and was buried 28 April 1935 in the Chappell Hill Cemetery located at 5465 Sample Cemetery Ln, Chappell Hill, TX 77426 on 28 April 1935.

According to Daisy's newspaper obituary above, she was living in the home of one of her daughters in Galveston, Texas at the time of her death on 14 March 1963. She too was laid to rest in the Chappell Hill Cemetery on 20 March 1963.
